We live in a very busy world. Many cities don't even sleep anymore so there is a constant buzz of activity. How does a professional kid get their emotional and psychological 'Wheaties' fix before they go out and tackle the day? Well, the first thing we must do is mentally prepare ourselves for what we know is out there, uncertainty. There are no guarantees what may happen in the course of the day so all we can do is arm ourselves with a plan we can follow, no matter what the world throws at us.
Make a commitment to yourself each morning to achieve a specific list of doable activities. Things like maintaining a sense of joy; working on building a positive relationship or improving a broken one; or, focusing on learning one new thing.
Write down three things you can absolutely accomplish no matter what happens around you. Make it challenging but realistic. Look at your list throughout the day and make sure you stay focused on achieving each goal. Mentally prepare yourself for obstacles, complications and other external interference that will come your way but commit to not allowing them to derail your plan.
At the end of the day, look at your list and see how you did. If you achieved all of your goals, give yourself a great big pat on the back for perseverance and strength in the face of adversity. If you achieved some but not all, carry the unsuccessful goals over into the next day to try again and celebrate the successes. If you didn't achieve any, think about why you didn't and what you can do differently tomorrow... a new day, a new approach and a new opportunity to be a better you.
